Choosing a Baby Cot

One of the most important furniture for your baby is the cot and you have to choose one wisely. There are a wide variety of cots in the market; they range from traditional ones to those that are contemporary. No matter what design you end up choosing, there are a few things that you have to take into consideration.

Versatility
For optimum use, the cots you choose should be able to adapt to your baby’s needs as he grows. Look for a cot that is convertible into a toddler bed. This may be more expensive, but this will free you from purchasing a toddler bed when your baby outgrows the cot.

Rail Distance
The distance between rails in cot should not be more than 2 to 2 3/8 inches. This will make sure that your baby’s head will not get stuck in between them.

Side Drops
Side drops make a parent’s life easier. This will facilitate taking your baby out of the crib. When it comes to side drops there are two types that are available in the market. The first is a Single Drop Side and a Double Drop side. The double drops side cot may be more expensive but it is much more convenient to use. Round cribs usually have one drop side. When lowered, side drops should be at least 9 to 10 inches higher than the mattress support and no less than 26 inches above the support when raised.

Mattress Support
The cot you will purchase should have sturdy mattress support than connects to the crib securely. A metal mattress will last longer and support the antics of a hyperactive toddler.
