Choosing a Baby Monitor

A Baby Monitor is an essential tool when keeping track of your baby while he is in a different room. It allows you to do other things during nap times, because you can leave your baby in one room while you take the baby monitor with you while you do stuff around the house. Baby Monitors are no longer limited to just audio types. Now, there are audio/movement monitors and audio/video monitors. There is no general type of monitor for everyone. You should pick out a version that caters to you and your baby’s needs as well as to the unique circumstances that surround you.
Basically there are three types of baby monitors available in the market and they are as follows: Audio, Audio/Movement and Audio/Video.

Audio Monitors – This is the basic type of baby monitor that transmits audio signals from your baby’s room to any room within the monitor’s range. This type of monitor may come with two receivers so that both parents or a parent and a nanny can have one each.

Audio and Movement Monitors – The basic difference between this type of monitor with the audio one is that, this monitor comes with a sensor pad that is usually placed beneath the baby mattress. This pad helps monitor movement and your baby’s breathing.

Audio and Video Monitors – This type of monitor transmits not only audio but video signals as well. This type comes with a receiver that has a small screen that facilitates viewing.
Here are two features that you have to consider when buying a baby monitor. Keeping these things in mind will help you pick the best monitor for you and your baby.

Frequency and Range – Cheaper monitors function only on a 49MHz frequency. This frequency has a lot of interference from other sources on the same frequency. Try and choose a monitor that has a wide range of frequency choices. The Range - choose a monitor that has a wide range. This allows you to go further away yet still be able to hear your baby.

Power – Most baby monitors are battery powered to make it handy. This results in you buying a lot of batteries. It is best if you look for a battery that has an A/C adapter option or those with rechargeable batteries. Look for a monitor that has low battery indicators, this feature gives you an idea when you have to change the batteries.
