Choosing a Trampoline for a Child
Age of User – Trampolines come in different sizes and shapes. The age of the child must be taken into consideration when buying a trampoline. For toddlers, there are trampoline on the market that have removable handles and usually come in variety of colors and characters.
Shape – Trampolines come in three basic shapes: Round, Rectangle and Square. The round trampoline may come in a six feet round and up to sixteen feet in diameter. This type of trampoline is designed to ensure that the bouncer is in the middle of the device. A six inch round trampoline may hold your kids interest for longer. Rectangle – rectangular shaped trampolines allow for the highest jump. This type of trampoline is best for kids who are into gymnastics. Square trampolines are generally the same as the rectangle ones although the height reached when jumping is not as high.
Material – The trampoline you buy should be made of sturdy material. The trampoline should be able to support the weight of an adult. Look at the material of the jumping mat. Jumping mats come in several material grades. The higher the grade the longer the mat will last. The trampoline frame must also be very sturdy; it should not bend or buckle when the trampoline is in use. The springs on the side should also be strong and can easily spring back into shape after use. Keep in mind that the longer the spring the higher the jump.
Never let more than one person bounce on the trampoline at the same time. This scenario can be potentially dangerous since the bouncers can collide into each other and the action of one user can negatively affect the other. No matter how big the trampoline is, don’t let two people use it at once. Never leave children younger than six unsupervised when using the trampoline.
